Towards a real change in the journey of cancer patients in Palestine
Ramallah - 10th of August 2025:
Mariam Foundation Fighting Cancer, yesterday, launched a conference of the first-of-its-kind project in Palestine to facilitate the treatment journey of cancer patients, a nurse navigator project - breast cancer.
The project aims to develop a comprehensive model that offers psychological guidance, logistical support, and humanitarian follow-up to breast cancer patients during their treatment journey in Palestine. The project is implemented in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, in cooperation with Matala Hospital, with funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Palestinian Medical Relief (PMRS), and with generous support from the Japanese people.
The conference saw the presence of prominent figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Education, the Ministry of Women's Affairs, the Palestinian Medical Relief, the UN Population Fund, the Matala Hospital, as well as Dr. Leila Ghanam, Mariam Ambassadors and the Foundation members of doctors and volunteers who were and continue to be candles lighting the path of Mariam. Representatives from partners and workers of the project were also present, including Reem Maqdadi from the UN Population Fund, Dr. Fadi Al-Atrash, director of Matala Hospital, and Sabreen Obaidullah from the Palestinian Medical Relief.
A Palestinian cancer patient gave a touching testimony about her real struggles during her treatment journey, the psychological and logistical difficulties she encountered, emphasizing the importance of this project in providing support and guidance to cancer patients. The patient expressed her deepest gratitude to everyone who works and contributes to the success of the project and its realization on the ground.
In his speech, Mr. Mohammed Hamid, director and founder of the Mariam Foundation, emphasized the importance of the project and necessity for its implementation in accordance with the privacy of the Palestinian reality, making it clear that the journey of treating a Palestinian cancer patient is different from anywhere else in the world, accompanied by challenges and ongoing daily struggle.
In this conference, the Mariam Foundation also emphasized the importance of local businesses and collaborations to bring support, assistance and awareness to the largest number of women in Palestine.
