The Mariam Foundation for Cancer Care officially inaugurated Mariam Theatre & Café in Ramallah on Friday evening, in the presence of a distinguished gathering of government officials, national leaders, cultural figures, community representatives, partners, and supporters from across Palestine. The project marks the launch of Palestine’s first non-profit theatre and café dedicated to supporting cancer patients while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Foundation’s humanitarian programs.
The initiative reflects the Foundation’s vision of transforming culture into a force for giving, with all proceeds from the theatre and café directly supporting cancer patients and funding the Foundation’s services and programs.
During the opening ceremony, Mohammad Hamed, Director of the Mariam Foundation, explained that the project was established out of the Foundation’s commitment to maintaining the independence of its humanitarian mission by building a sustainable source of income rather than relying on conditional funding. He emphasized that Mariam Theatre & Café is more than a cultural space—it is a model that brings together arts and humanitarian work, where every event and every visit contributes directly to supporting cancer patients and bringing hope to their journey.
The event featured remarks by Laila Ghannam, who praised the initiative and highlighted the importance of sustainable community projects in strengthening resilience and promoting solidarity. Speaking on behalf of the Tawfiq Ziad Foundation, Wahiba Ziad underscored the role of culture in preserving identity and inspiring hope, emphasizing that combining culture with humanitarian work creates a meaningful and lasting impact.
The evening also included a special tribute performance honoring the late Lebanese artist Ahmad Kaabour, conducted by Maestro Jihad Al Shuaibi with the participation of an orchestra and choir. Additional performances were presented by Off-Stage, Steps Ballet Academy, and singer Jumana Daibes, creating a memorable celebration that was warmly received by the audience.
As the Foundation’s first non-profit cultural project, Mariam Theatre & Café represents an innovative model for sustainable social impact, ensuring continued support for cancer patients while establishing a vibrant space where culture, community, and hope come together.
