Nablus – 15 October 2025

The Mental Health Department at the Mariam Foundation for Cancer Support organized a seminar titled “Mariam Pulse” in recognition of World Mental Health Day, aiming to promote awareness of the importance of psychological support for cancer patients and its integration into the treatment journey.

The seminar featured five research presentations delivered by experts in the psychological and medical fields: Dr. Fakher Al-Khalili, specialist Alaa Awartani, Mr. Sami Abu Sanoubar, Ms. Kareen Washahi, and Dr. Nagham Kowwa. All presentations emphasized the importance of integrating psychological care with medical treatment in the healing process.

The event opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by student Islam Jarrar, followed by speeches from Mr. Mohammad Hamed, CEO of the Mariam Foundation; Mr. Eyad Maqbool, CEO of An-Najah National University Hospital; and Ms. Odette Shomar, representing Mariam’s partners in Nazareth. The speakers stressed the significance of joint efforts in supporting patients both psychologically and physically.

The seminar also included a musical performance by young participant Ethar from the Mariam Joy program, with appreciation extended to Mr. Amer Kanaan for his guidance and support. A painting created by the child Muawiya, expressing his experience during treatment, was presented during the event. The Foundation thanked artist Jihan Abu Omar for her supervision and contribution in completing the artwork.

Additionally, survivor Mayyas and her “Mariam companion” Tia shared an inspiring account of their healing journey and mutual support. The seminar concluded with honoring the volunteers of the Mariam Joy Program for the year 2024/2025, the participating researchers, and a group of high school graduates in recognition of their achievements and their determination to continue their path despite the challenges.
