“Mariam” Foundation and Al-Asriyya University CollegeOrganize a Breast Cancer Awareness DayOn the occasion of Pink October
Ramallah – In an effort to strengthen health awareness and community partnership, the Mariam Foundation for Cancer Support, in cooperation with Al-Asriyya University College, organized a full awareness day on Sunday, 26/10/2025, marking Pink October, the global month dedicated to breast cancer awareness. The event took place at the main campus of Al-Asriyya University College in Ramallah.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Rabhi Bisharat, Dean of Al-Asriyya University College, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that organizing such an event reflects the college’s deep commitment to active community partnership and meaningful collaboration with specialized institutions.
Dr. Bisharat added: “October is a month of awareness par excellence. It is not limited to the global day for breast cancer awareness but also includes other health-related days such as World Mental Health Day, World Pain Awareness Day, World Osteoporosis Day, and more. These awareness days give us immense medical and social value, forming the clearest path to realizing the essential principle: ‘An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.’ The health of our community begins with its awareness.”
For his part, Mr. Abdel Rahim Tahaina, Coordinator of the Nurse Navigator Project at the Mariam Foundation, highlighted the strategic intersections between the foundation and Al-Asriyya University College. He noted that this event is the culmination of earlier activities launched last September, laying the groundwork for a long-term partnership.
Tahaina provided a comprehensive introduction to the Mariam Foundation, outlining its founding journey, the milestones it has achieved, and its mission. He emphasized that the foundation currently operates more than 12 vital projects serving thousands of beneficiaries through its offices and branches across various Palestinian regions.
He concluded by extending an open invitation to students and attendees who wish to contribute to the foundation’s work and join its diverse initiatives.
The awareness day saw significant engagement through the volunteer efforts of students from the pharmacy, nursing, and physiotherapy departments. The students showcased their strong sense of community responsibility by preparing and selling a variety of healthy dishes and products, with all proceeds dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients.
The day also featured the participation of Astra Lab, which provided medical examinations and breast cancer screenings for those interested, alongside clinical nutrition specialist Seema Bilalta, as well as Mariam’s Charity Shop, whose proceeds also support breast cancer patients.
